Alphonsa Byrd
One of the first black leaders elected to Troy City Council
About
Mr. Alphonsa Byrd, Sr. was the first African American City Councilman in Troy, AL. He servered for over 12 years. Mr. Byrd received his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from Alabama State University. At First Missionary Baptist Church, he served as the administrative assistant to the Pastor, and he was the Chairman of the Deacon Board for over 20 years.
The Alphonsa Byrd Leadership Foundation was established to empower students of all backgrounds through STEM education and workforce development, bridging the gap between education and employment, and equipping them with the skills and opportunities needed to excel in a rapidly evolving world.
